SBI Mutual Fund Raises Swiggy Stake to 5.12% With 1.18 Crore Share Purchase
SBI Mutual Fund has increased its stake in food delivery and quick commerce major Swiggy to over 5% after acquiring an additional 1.18 crore shares through a market purchase on September 29.
The acquisition is valued at around Rs 300 crore based on Swiggy’s closing price of Rs 253.70 on September 29. The filing, however, does not disclose the actual acquisition price.
According to a regulatory filing, SBI Mutual Fund, through its various schemes, acquired 1,18,38,465 shares, equivalent to a 0.4289% stake in Swiggy.
Before the transaction, SBI Mutual Fund held 12.97 crore shares, representing a 4.70% stake in the company. Following the purchase, its holding increased to 14.15 crore shares, or 5.12%.
The purchase took SBI Mutual Fund’s holding past the 5% threshold, triggering a disclosure under Regulation 29(1) of SEBI’s Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers Regulations.
SBI Funds Management submitted the disclosure to Swiggy, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE on September 30.
The stake increase comes after Swiggy shareholders approved a 49.5% cap on aggregate foreign ownership at its AGM in August, clearing a key hurdle in its transition to an Indian-owned and controlled company (IOCC).
Swiggy’s domestic ownership had crossed 50% in July, while foreign ownership stood at 49.76%.
In Q1 FY27, Swiggy reported a 7% year-on-year increase in its operating revenue to Rs 6,812 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 4,961 crore in Q1 FY25. The company also narrowed its losses by 34% to Rs 791 crore during the period.
Swiggy’s shares were trading at around Rs 247 as of 10:40 AM on Thursday, giving the company a market capitalisation of Rs 68,125 crore ($7.17 billion).
