StudioBackdrops Expands as India’s Creator Economy Grows 919%
India’s creator economy is developing into a formal industry, supported by rising demand for content creators, video production professionals and social media marketers. Job postings for content-creation roles in India grew 919% between 2020 and early 2026, according to a report by Indeed.
The share of creator-related positions has increased from roughly 1 in every 1,000 marketing job postings to nearly 1 in every 100, reflecting the growing demand for professionals across the sector.
India’s influencer marketing industry is projected to reach Rs 4,500-5,000 crore by 2027, according to Kofluence’s Decoding Influence report. The projection highlights the increasing spending by brands on creator-led marketing.
Nearly 60% of creator-economy hiring now takes place outside traditional influencer roles. These positions include video production, community management and content operations, indicating the development of a broader employment ecosystem around content creation.
Brands are also increasingly hiring creators as employees rather than engaging them as freelancers for individual campaigns. This shift reflects the demand for greater accountability and consistency in content production.
Equipment Access Remains a Challenge for Creators
Although camera and lighting equipment has become more affordable, access to suitable equipment and backdrops remains a challenge for creators across India.
Search queries such as “best studio lights for beginners”, “affordable backdrop stands” and “home studio setup on a budget” are reportedly among the most common searches by Indian creators.
The equipment market remains fragmented, with no dominant retailer, numerous unbranded regional marketplace listings and local manufacturers. Studio-rental options also become less accessible outside major metropolitan cities.
This creates an opportunity for companies that can make content-creation equipment accessible to creators across different regions, including those living outside major urban centres.
How StudioBackdrops Is Expanding Its Reach
StudioBackdrops is among the companies addressing equipment-access challenges in India’s creator economy. Founded in 2016, the company started with a catalogue of roughly 150 items and has expanded it to more than 6,500 stock-keeping units (SKUs).
Its distribution network extends beyond major metropolitan areas, with nationwide delivery covering more than 20,000 PIN codes, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns and remote locations.
The company’s product portfolio includes equipment from global brands such as Godox and SYNCO, which it says helps reduce import delays and duties.
It also offers products through its in-house brands, including Baroque Studio, AriesX, Backdrops4ever and Indus. These brands focus on backdrops and lighting equipment at competitive prices.
StudioBackdrops Adds Creator Education Through SBD Creators
As the creator economy develops, more people are exploring social media as a potential source of income rather than treating content creation solely as a hobby.
StudioBackdrops is expanding its approach by adding education to its existing catalogue and delivery network through SBD Creators, a structured mentorship initiative.
The programme covers equipment selection, lighting and workflow for creators, regardless of their follower count. Regional-language content is already available, and the initiative aims to onboard 100 creators across all 28 states by the end of 2026.
Archisman Misra, Founder and CEO of StudioBackdrops, said reliable access to suitable equipment is an important factor in the growth of India’s creator economy.
“We’ve spent close to a decade investing in that, catalogue, manufacturing, distribution, and now, through SBD Creators, we’re investing in the know-how alongside it,” Misra said. He added that the company sees itself as part of an industry that is still developing and intends to grow alongside it.
With creator-related job postings rising 919% between 2020 and early 2026, the sector’s growth is creating demand not only for creative talent but also for equipment, supply chains, distribution and education. StudioBackdrops’ expansion reflects one approach to addressing these infrastructure needs as India’s creator economy continues to develop.
