What Is the Digital Commerce Coalition? Launched by Amazon, Meesho, Swiggy, Zepto and Eternal

What Is the Digital Commerce Coalition?

Leading ecommerce and quick-commerce companies including Amazon, Meesho, Eternal (formerly Zomato), Swiggy, and Zepto have come together to launch the Digital Commerce Coalition (DCC), a new industry-led body focused on supporting the long-term growth and development of India’s digital commerce sector.

The coalition aims to advance key priorities such as consumer trust, responsible innovation, and inclusive economic participation. It will act as a platform for stakeholder engagement, policy discussions, knowledge sharing, and industry collaboration to support the future-ready growth of the sector.

DCC will focus on areas where collective action can create a broader impact, including improving customer experiences, strengthening supply chains, supporting delivery partners, expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and contributing to India’s economic development.

Speaking on the launch, Zepto Chief Policy Officer Rachit Ranjan said India’s digital commerce sector is at an important turning point, where decisions made today will influence how MSMEs access markets, how supply chains evolve, and how consumer trust is maintained. He added that addressing these priorities requires industry-wide collaboration rather than efforts by individual companies.

The coalition has appointed New Delhi-based public policy consulting firm Koan Advisory Group as its secretariat. The firm will support research initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and policy-related activities undertaken by the body.

The launch comes as India’s digital commerce market continues to witness rapid growth, driven by increasing internet penetration, rising adoption across smaller cities, and the expansion of ecommerce and quick-commerce business models. Industry estimates suggest the market could grow from approximately $165 billion today to nearly $450 billion over the next five years, accounting for around 22% of India’s overall retail gross merchandise value (GMV).

At the same time, the sector is facing increased regulatory attention around issues such as competition, marketplace practices, consumer protection, and labour welfare, making industry coordination increasingly important.

Notably, Walmart-backed Flipkart is not among the founding members of the coalition. Reliance-owned digital commerce platforms are also absent from the member list.

With the launch of the Digital Commerce Coalition, some of India’s largest ecommerce and quick-commerce companies are seeking to create a dedicated platform for policy engagement, industry collaboration, and sustainable growth as the sector enters its next phase of expansion.
